Week of Gratitude - Post #2

So, let's be real for a minute.  Do you know what is really bad when you're kind of an inconsistent blogger?  Deciding spontaneously to do a week-long series and only sketching out the most basic of drafts for each post fully intending on finishing them all in time to publish on their respective days. Because if you've been in the habit of letting life get in the way of your blog, that will probably continue to happen.

So I'm combining a couple of post themes since I've missed like 3 days in a row. Oops.

Two things I'm thankful for that go hand to hand are forgiveness and love. Without one, I don't think it is possible to have the other. It is only when we choose to forgive someone that we can really show them love.

So yes, I am very thankful for the forgiveness and love I've been shown as well as the ability to forgive and love others.

Seven Days of Gratitude - Day 1

I've decided to do a little week-long series leading up to Thanksgiving on gratitude.  There is so much negativity and sad news in the world at large right now that I think it will help me to reflect on the positive parts of life.

No posts about gratitude would be complete without mentioning my wonderful family.  I am truly grateful for them.

From my wonderful parents who are such a help with our boys (watching them two days a week while we both work) and who do so many other things for us to my sweet babies - I have a wonderful, strong family unit.

Our extended family is spread over the globe so I don't get to see them as much as I would like, but each one is so special to me.

I believe that family is one of the greatest gifts God gives us, and how we deal with our family is one of our greatest responsibilities to God.  Strong families make strong communities. My family is such a blessing.

Speaking of family blessings, Nathaniel occasionally sleeps through the night now.  That might be the biggest blessing of all. (I kid.... I kid.)

Linking up with Becky from Choosing Happy for this week's Currently link-up!

Currently I'm...

Loving this weather!  November 2nd and 70 degrees? Yes please and thank you.

Enjoying Christmas music! Now that it is November, I feel that I can enjoy my Christmas music and movies with no shame.

Sewing Ha! Yeah, no.

Watching the clock go by as the person I am supposed to be interviewing right now is 33 minutes late. Seriously?  It's a job interview. You show up on time or early. Not (at least) 33 minutes late. Ugh.

Craving a day to lay on the couch and watch Netflix. I was supposed to have Friday off, but it was so busy at work that I had to cancel it.  I need a down day desperately.

Welcoming all things holiday - Thanksgiving decorations are up, Christmas preparations are starting, and it's my favorite time of the year!

Nathaniel's Birthday Party - Under the Sea

For Nathaniel's first birthday party, we tossed around a variety of party themes.  I personally wanted to do a Baby Einstein theme since the boys have those DVDs and toys.  I even found a lot of cute ideas on Pinterest (of course) for Baby Einstein party ideas.

John wasn't thrilled with the idea.  He wanted to do something with dinosaurs.  This was an idea we had been tossing around since Jeremiah's first birthday!  But I no longer loved the idea for my baby. So we continued to toss around ideas.  Daniel Tiger was considered, but Jeremiah was more into that than Nathaniel since Nathaniel wasn't really allowed to watch tv.

Finally, we decided on "Under the Sea."  A benefit to having Nathaniel in the summer than in the winter like Jeremiah is that we had more flexibility with the party.  We could have some indoor activities, some outdoor activities, and (most importantly to me!) John could cook a lot of the food on the grill. In other important facts, I was able to find an adorable romper for him to wear that went along with the the theme.

We had about 20 people there, and Nathaniel got way more toys than he needed. :)  The food was good, I liked the decorations, and of course there was cake! Overall, it was great to just hang out and have fun with our friends and loved ones!

I'm linking up with Becky at Choose Happy for this post.  I love blogging link-ups to find new blogs to read, make blogging friends, and more.

Thinking about... clothes for my boys.  My friend messaged me that Remember Nguyen is having a big sale, and I absolutely love their clothes. However, both boys already have Thanksgiving and 2 Christmas outfits (what? I like to plan ahead!).  So really, they don't need anything. And buying ahead hasn't been working so well since they grow at such different rates.  But it's tempting.

Loving... my coffee.  I'm sure this is a shock to those of you who read my blog (um, when I do it) regularly.

Reading... Unwind by Neal Shusterman. It's really good so far. I had tried reading it once before but didn't get into it.  It's young adult fiction, which is a genre I really enjoy (don't judge!).

Planning... on blogging more.  I need a writing outlet.

Baking... Um..... I have baked goods scented candles and Scentsy scents. Does that count?

Thankful for… too much to name.  My boys, my home, my Jesus.  I am a very blessed woman.

Family Time

In June, we were so fortunate to have my brother, sister in law, and their three children visit.  As I've mentioned, they live in Singapore, so there aren't any weekend trips feasible!

Last time we saw them, my niece Anna was 6 weeks old. She is now 18 months. It was so fun getting to know her.  And the boys - Caleb and Evan - are 8 and 6, such fun ages.

From sleepovers to Star Wars, from miniature golf to rockets, we all enjoyed our family time!

We also did family pictures at the park where we did our wedding pictures and other family pictures.

It was our first time with the "whole" family as Nathaniel wasn't born last time we saw them!

As always, it was very sad when they left in early July, but it can't take away the memories we made!

Silly faces!

Grandparents with their grandchildren. Happy bunch!
