Confessions

Linking up for Confessions Wednesday again!

I confess that I hate Halloween and everything about it. I'm so glad it's finally here though, just so it's over.  And that means tomorrow I can start listening to Christmas music without shame.

I confess that this has been the kind of day that would be a bad day even if it weren't Halloween, thus reinforcing my hatred for Halloween.

I confess that when I weighed Monday morning, I realized I had lost 5 pounds from being sick.  This usually would excite me, but does not excite pregnant me.  But I've been a bottomless pit the last 2 days, so now I think I may have gained all 5 pounds back.

I confess that after bad dreams about a work situation last night, I was tempted to fake sick so I wouldn't have to deal with said situation. But it is dealt with and done now. So I'm glad I didn't.

I confess that my feet and hands are so swollen that I fear I'm turning into the Michelin man with all this swelling.

I confess that after the last work meeting, I'm too stressed to really focus on anything so I'm blogging at work for the first time in ages.

I confess that I judge adults who work normal jobs (not kid related) and dress up for Halloween at work. Most of you? Look stupid.

Our Weekend.... Crazy

This post was started over a week ago.... so it's actually referring to events from the first weekend of October.

So, a while ago, John and I made plans to go down to Ohio on a Saturday night after John got off work and stay until Monday. We were going to see my aunt and her family.  It was my nephew's 8th birthday (well, a day after it) and we were going to see them, go to the Cleveland Zoo together, and just spend some time hanging out.  We attempted to do this last year, but the weather was terrible. We went to Cleveland but with 50 mph winds, the zoo and anything else outdoor was out.

Well, two days before our trip, the weather report changed to say we should expect similar weather this year. So we contemplated cancelling the trip.  But because it was the only weekend we could go (the perfect storm of not having responsibilities at church, being able to take Monday off work, etc. had occurred) we decided to go and if we couldn't go to the zoo, we'd still be able to see family.

John was able to get off early on Saturday in another miracle which meant we'd be there before midnight! Success! The trip was off to a great start!  But when we were less than a mile from the house, my aunt called. Her mother-in-law's husband had had a horrific accident - he fell from their barn and was unresponsive. He was not breathing on his own, but he had a pulse after being revived. She and my uncle needed to go to western Michigan. Could we still come and stay with the boys?

Of course, we said yes. We also said we would do our best to distract the boys, help them have a good time, etc.

So that's what we did. We got there around 11:00 Saturday night.  Cole was sleeping. Gage was still awake.  We put Gage to bed and went to bed ourselves. We were tired!

Sadly, the boys grandpa died during the night.  He had shattered all but one bone in his neck (he fell directly onto his head!), never regained consciousness, never breathed on his own, and as soon as the hospital stopped pumping blood pressure medicine into him, he died within 5 minutes. We did not tell the boys, but let their parents tell them when they came home later.

We gave the boys their presents (Wii game for Cole, Legos for Gage). We hadn't been able to go down for Gage's birthday, so we still had his gift.... from March.  They loved their gifts.  We then got ready to go to the zoo. It was a little cold and rain was expected off and on, but we went anyway!

The Cleveland Zoo is amazing! Way better than the Detroit Zoo! We started off at the Rainforest - a nice, warm, dry, inside exhibit. :)  Lots of reptiles, amphibians, monkeys, and more.  We spent the most time in this building.  Gage had apparently been studying the rain forest at school as throughout the trip we heard things like "Oh look. It's the canopy at the top of the rainforest. It shields much of the sunlight from hitting the wildlife on the rainforest floor" and "the bats are fascinating. Despite having no teeth, they are able to chew due to their powerful jaws!"

The world's largest rodent
Due to the weather, we didn't stay at the zoo as long as we would have. 50 degree weather gets pretty cold when the rain picks up! Also, when you're pregnant and have trouble walking, a few hours is really all you can take.

We saw a large cats exhibit, giraffes, aquarium, tigers, reindeer, elephants, and much more! The boys were so wiped out that they both fell asleep in the car on the way home.

We got home to find..... we were locked out of the house. That was less than ideal. We were eventually able to break into the house using a putty knife. We spent some "quiet time" resting and relaxing (I was having pain and contractions, so I laid on the couch and drank lots of water). We then had pizza for dinner and watched a movie.

Around the end of the movie, my aunt and uncle came home and they told the boys the news.  They took it okay, though obviously, this was not easy for them.  The funeral would be in Michigan later that week.

Monday, they all headed off for work and school. We headed home and spent the day relaxing and resting.

It was great seeing the boys and it was nice to be there when my aunt and uncle needed us, even though the weekend could have had more ideal circumstances.

25 Weeks!

How big is baby?
He is about the size of a head of cauliflower.

Total weight gain/loss:
Didn't weigh this week. I don't like weighing.

Sleep:
I didn't sleep well this week due to a cold. I had trouble breathing a lot.

Movement:
He's moving a lot!  He was kicking a lot this morning. He tends to like staying mainly on my right side.

Symptoms:
A giant stomach. :)  Swollen ankles.  Shortness of breath even before the cold.

Food cravings:
Food has not sounded good this week. :( I think it's partly the cold. One day, all I ate all day was 2 pieces of toast, a yogurt, and a 6 inch sub from Subway.

Food aversions:
Almost everything. Still hard boiled eggs specifically.

Gender:
BOY

Belly Button in or out?
In but getting kind of shallow!

What I miss:
Taking deep breaths.

What I am looking forward to:
Meeting my little man. But not for at least 13 weeks, preferably 15.

Milestones:
He's moving a lot more! And he's also viable at this stage. Not that we want him born this soon, but it's a little comforting to know that he could survive outside the womb now.

Wednesday Link-up - Confessions!

Linking up with Mrs. Bear for Wednesday Confessions!

I confess..... that I seem to be prematurely nesting. I want everything done for the baby RIGHT NOW.  I was telling my husband I want the dresser put together so I can wash the baby clothes we have so far. He's like "Isn't it a little early for that?" Yes, yes, it is.  The rational part of my brain knows that.

I confess.... that being sick (again!) has made me extremely non-motivated to do..... well, anything.  Unless you consider watching tv and playing with my Nook doing things.

I confess.... that I'd rather go into work sick than call in, even if I should call in. I initially called in today.  My boss didn't really approve, so I ended up dragging myself in after the doctor. It only lasted an hour. But when I wasn't there, I was so stressed.  Probably the reason I've only called in twice in over 3 years of working there - and today's call-in was largely unsuccessful!

I confess.... that I'm super excited to finally get my new phone this weekend!  After never having a smart phone and having the cheapest pick-up and go phone known to man for the last 7 weeks, it's exciting.  As is the fact that I'll have an iPhone for a cheaper bill than I'm currently paying for just talking and texting.

Anybody have anything they want to admit? Link-up!

Guest Post!

We're taking over the blog tonight.

We wanted you all to know why occasionally Mommy doesn't blog as often or as coherently as she would like.

Could you blog with the two of us sitting on your computer? Could you bear to move us when we're as cute as we are?

So if you have noticed a dearth of blogging from Mommy, blame us.

Got to run; Mommy's getting out the catnip. She knows how to get her computer back.

Love,
Leo and Leia

Sunday Social - Deep Thoughts

Linking up with Ashley and Neely for today's Sunday Social.

1. What do you value most in life?
My relationship with God and my relationships with others - family, friends, friends who are like family. Hands-down, these relationships mean more to me than any item that I have.

2. What do you think is the greatest invention in your lifetime and why?

Hmm.... probably the PC. I know computers existed before my lifetime, but not small personal computers. When I look at how we use computers today - at work, at home, etc. it is hard to imagine doing business, keeping in touch with people, etc. without them.

3. What do you think is the secret to a good life?

I think the secret to the best life possible is trusting God and His plan.  By following His blueprint for us, we live the best life for us.  It's one thing the Scripture teaches us over and over - He has a plan and His plan is best.

4. What would you most like to be remembered for when you’re gone?
I would like to be remembered for being a loving, caring person who helped others.

5. What accomplishment in your life are you most proud of?
Hmm.... not a specific accomplishment, but I'm proud of the life I live. There have been challenges, curveballs - job losses, housing market issues, etc. but through faith in God, hard work, and discipline, we have a nice life in many ways.

6. If a movie was made about your life, who would you want to play you?
I don't know. Obviously someone really pretty. :)

He is about the size of a cantaloupe!

Total weight gain/loss:
Didn't weigh this week. I don't like weighing.

Sleep:
Still waking up most nights. Often having to go to the bathroom.

Movement:
He's moving a lot!  He goes through stages though. I think it's the whole sleeping/wakefulness thing.  He'll move a lot, then nothing for a few hours.
Symptoms:
My growing stomach. :)  Tired a lot.  A lot of pressure and pain in my lower stomach. Extreme swollen ankles. And it feels like morning sickness is back? Blah. Oh, and I may be slightly hormonal at times. ;)

Food cravings:
Nothing really until tonight and then..... bbq boneless wings? What? I don't even usually like wings!

Food aversions:
Chicken. Hard boiled eggs. Pretty much my mainstays at the beginning of the pregnancy.

Gender:
BOY

Belly Button in or out?
In but getting kind of shallow!

What I miss:
Being able to walk a lot without a lot of pain, contractions, and ankle swelling.

What I am looking forward to:
Meeting my little man. But not for at least 14 weeks, preferably 16 or 17.

We have a date for our baby shower! My aunt and mom are throwing it. :)

Sunday Social - Literary Week!

1. Favorite childhood book
My favorite book series was The Babysitters' Club.  I didn't have one particular favorite, but the early ones were my favorite. And Kristy was my favorite character, so the ones from her point of view were probably my favorite. But I loved many, many books.
2 . Favorite Book lately
I'm currently reading 2 pregnancy books and Decision Points by George W. Bush.  I am really enjoying Decision Points.  Lately, I've also really enjoyed a couple of the Shopoholic books.
3. Book you wish you could live in
Easy - The Anne of Green Gables series! I loved that series too. Oh, or maybe the Chronicles of Narnia. It would be cool to go from one world to the other.
4. If you could be any character from a book who would it be and why?
Hmm... there's this book series I love called the O'Malley series by Dee Henderson.  I would be Rachel from that series. A close knit family of siblings that all adopted each other and are all there for each other all the time, a fun job, and a great boyfriend. I'd be her.
5. Favorite Book turned Movie?
Let's see - either Pride and Prejudice or Sense and Sensibility. I also really like The Devil Wears Prada and Confessions of a Shopoholic. Oh, and as previously mentioned, Anne of Green Gables.
6. Favorite Magazines
I mainly read magazines at the gym or when I travel. I really like Glamour, People, Women's Health, and Shape.

He is about the size of a grapefruit!

I lost a pound this week. So up a total of 7.

Sleep:
Still waking up most nights. Often having to go to the bathroom. And the crazy dreams haven't stopped.

Symptoms:
My growing stomach. :)  Tired a lot.  A lot of pressure and pain in my lower stomach. And today, a new glamorous one - swollen ankles.

Food cravings:
Spaghetti once this week. Overall, nothing. Food is not very appealing.

Food aversions:
Nothing particular, but food in general is eh this week.  Nothing sounds good and I'm nauseous a lot.

Gender:
BOY

Belly Button in or out?
 In

What I miss:
Being able to walk a lot without a lot of pain, contractions, and ankle swelling. Last Sunday I ended up resting most of the day after a trip to the zoo caused a lot of contractions.

What I am looking forward to:
Meeting my little man. But not for at least 14 weeks, preferably 16 or 17.

Milestones:
Fetal echocardiogram went great! His heart is perfect.
Also, his face is now fully formed. He also can hear our voices.
