Just Checking In....

My poor, neglected blog..... such a sad sight!

However, there is a light at the end of the post-less tunnel. That light is April 18th. Why, you may ask? That's when tax season ends this year. That's when I hopefully resume working 40-50 hours a week instead of 50-60. This week, I have today off, and I still worked 45. So about 11 a day. Not too shabby!

Add that to other responsibilities in life - I subbed for our children's pastor last weekend, teaching twice. I had family in town that I wanted to spend every possible minute with (and it was great). Also, I was diagnosed with an underactive thyroid, and the medicine I've started seems to make me sick. But still, I'm glad after all the tests, we're finally treating something! :) We'll see what problems, if any others, were tied to this.

I'm out of town today through Tuesday (sitting in an airport as I type!), so blogging time might be limited due to limited internet access. Or maybe I'll have lots of access and feel bloggy. It remains to be seen. :)

Five Questions Friday (on Sunday!) March 13, 2011

I was too busy to do Five Question Friday on Friday. Work is very busy right now with tax season! But I'm a little under-the-weather today (I've been fighting a cold and now my stomach is bothering me as well). So today, I'm hanging out at home (at least for now) with the Gilmore Girls. Which gives me "catch up on blogs" time. And now on to 5QF.

1. Do you know what your REAL hair color is?
I've never dyed my hair (other than spray on for crazy-hair-day at school). So what you see is what you get!

2. Do you plan ahead for summer, or fly by the seat of your pants?
Plan.... always a planner. I'm all for a little spontaneity, but the emphasis is little. :)

3. What is your favorite meal to cook?
Ha! Oh, that's a serious question. Um..... easy breakfast food like eggs and toast. :)

4. Do you get offended by not receiving thank yous?
No, I don't. I usually don't even notice unless it's mentioned. And I prefer not receiving one to receiving a bad one. For example, once I received one for a wedding shower where I forgot to take my gift. They hadn't even received the gift and sent the thank you note with a "can't wait to see it" merely because they got an envelope. And then there was the typed one, addressed by the bride's mother, that said something along the lines of "Thank you for coming to our wedding and for the lovely gift. If you weren't able to make it, thank you for sending the gift." I got the feeling the mom was embarrassed by her daughter's lack of thank yous, so she mass produced and mailed the notes.

5. How did you meet your best friend?
I have multiple best friends. Let's see..... I met one at a party of my Christian fellowship in college, though we re-met when I worked for her dad a couple months later. I met another one when she scolded me for wearing pretty wedge sandals in Alabama. And yet another one at church. So, there's quite the variety there!

What I'm Loving Wednesday - March 9, 2011

Hmmm..... I just realized that last week I put the wrong date on my post because today is the 9th! Oops! Which means last week was NOT the 3rd.

What am I loving today! Many things! Many people. Love, love, love! Okay, now to be more specific. And to link up, visit Jamie.

-Spring is coming! It's staying light later! Snow is melting! It got all the way to 40 today!

-Tomorrow, my aunt is flying in! In fact, she's probably flying as we speak. She's my mom's twin sister, and tomorrow is their birthday. So it's extra special. She did this a few years ago as well, but as a surprise for my mom. That year, I picked her up at the airport and we surprised my mom. :) This year, my mom knows.

-Survivor!!!!! (Spoiler alert - don't read if you don't want to know!)



Russell is gone!!! Gone!!!!! Lost on Redemption Island, so that odious, loathsome, lout is truly gone!

Even aside from that, it's been a great season. :)

-The fact that I was wrong about when my medical test was. I thought it was today. I had no idea how I was going to get all my work done with being gone for awhile mid-day. I went in early in preparation. Pulled the paper out of my purse to find..... it's next week. Good. Yay!

It's late and I'm going to bed, which I also am loving - SLEEP!!!! :)

Thursday Thirteen - 3/3/2011 13 Things I'm Bad At

So tonight, at the gym, I tried a class called Zumba. Most of you have probably heard of it. You dance about in a workout-ish way. I. was. terrible.

No, really.

So, since I hadn't decided what my Thursday Thirteen would be, in honor of Zumba, I decided to post 13 things I am bad at. (Nobody get nervous.... I'm not wallowing in low self-esteem. I just thought this could be a fun post.)

For the inspiration of all Thursday Thirteen posts, please visit Rachel's blog. Rachel is one of my very favorite bloggers. In fact, we are beginning to think we are twins separated at birth!

1) Obviously, Zumba. Zumba requires coordination..... rhythm.... and apparently some kind of hip swivel that my hips just don't get. I'm pretty sure I heard my hips laughing at me for even trying to get them to.

2) Ironing I don't do it often, but when I do? Well..... it doesn't quite have the intended results. It takes 3-4 times to iron one item.

3) Cleaning my house Yeah..... I have problems cleaning the house. I'll start out well, but then I lose interest. Eventually, it gets done, but I am SO not Martha Stewart.

4) As previously mentioned, reading maps, getting to where I'm going, etc. Yeah. The GPS was pretty much made for someone like me. I can go someplace 20 times and still need directions. I can get lost in a parking lot (no, really. I have.). I just don't have the best spatial awareness skills. Or map reading skills. Or...... I don't know what. Finding places skills?

5) Sleeping I have trouble sleeping sometimes. I don't sleep a lot each night, though that's getting better. But the last few nights, I've woken up at 2ish a.m. Not fun.

6) Getting up in the morning Big fan of the snooze button. Huge fan, in fact.

7) Pushups Even when I'm in pretty good shape, pushups are one of those exercises that I struggle with!

8) Softball/Baseball Let's see.... I can't hit the ball. I'm afraid to try to catch the ball. I'm okay at throwing it (not pitching) but with being afraid to catch it, you don't get much chance to throw it!

9) Printing Pictures I used to be very good about putting all my pictures in albums once I developed them. They were always perfectly in order. It was all very neat and orderly. Now that I have a digital camera, that's all gone by the wayside. When I actually do print them, they never quite make it into the album.

10) Dealing with Blood Oh my. When I was teaching and children would have loose teeth, they would want to show me. And I would want to vomit. Seriously. I can't even look at blood on tv without cringing.

11) Trying New Foods As the world's pickiest eater (except maybe Rachel), I have trouble trying new foods. I know I probably won't like them. I'm not an adventurous "foodie." And if they're a strange color or texture, it's even harder. Like, I can get sick just thinking about it!

12) Keeping My Car Clean I think it's because I go so many places that I take so much in my car that I just end up leaving things behind, it gets messy, etc. And I almost never vacuum it.

13) Staying Away from Social Networking I check facebook about 25 times a day. I check twitter a lot as well. I'm not good at avoiding it. I start wondering what I'm missing!

What I'm Loving Wednesday - March 3, 2011

Things I'm loving this week:

Good times with good friends. :) Over the last week, I've had dinner with several sweet friends, two of whom brought their sweet babies. I had a wedding shower for 2 other great friends, and sat with several friends. Last week, I had a rough week in many ways - emotional stuff that I don't quite want to write about yet. But it was terrible situation and made for a stressful, emotional week. So I have to say, it makes time spent with loved ones extra sweet. Time spent appreciating people now while I can.

It is the month where spring officially starts. I'm ready to start wearing cute spring shoes with bright nail polish on my toes again. The weather is currently 20 degrees, so it could still be awhile....

Doctor appointment today Now, I hate going to the doctor. But today I felt, for the first time in a long time, like we're getting close to a solution. We're getting closer to knowing what's wrong and having a plan. And, out of my (seemingly many) doctors, this one is my favorite.

Tuesday Tidbits!

Quite the week so far. Work.... crazy. No, really.... crazy. I thought today "So far, this has been the WORST tax season of my career." (As far as general craziness) Then I realized it really hasn't. I haven't been at the office til 9 p.m. (yet). I've yet to get there at 6:30 a.m. So it's clearly not "the worst." Instead I have decided that each year, my subconscious chooses to block out the torment and terror in self-defense. Maybe it's a form of post-tramautic stress disorder.

Yesterday, by the time I worked, I was practically too burned out to talk. I had used up all my words for the day, and I'd used most of them saying "cost basis," "K-1," and "I understand." (We had an upset client; I had to say "I understand" a LOT!) But then I went to the place I volunteer and worked another 3 hours.... crazy! Then I finally got to the gym around 9:15. Then around 10:45, I finally got home and.... collapsed! Okay, not really. But figuratively!

Now, it's Tuesday night.... another long day at work and the gym, but now I'm home catching up on The Bachelor from last night. :)

By the way, I've started tracking all my workouts and food on Spark People. Anyone else ever tried that? Any tips? Suggestions? More?
